  1. Critical and creative thinking is the process which improve certain skills in order to have a better understanding of a subject. It implies to be able to recognize people’s point of view, arguments, and conclusions. Also, it improves skills as red between lines, reflection on issues, and presenting a point of view in a structured, clear, well-reasoned way that convinces people, Cottrell (2005).

    1. Hi, Marco
To be honest, I think the definition you have of critical and creative thinking is accurate and concrete. For me, this is a clear example that we do not need to explain many things that in some cases lose their meaning to what really needs to be known. Just saying.
      Bye.

  2. Critical and creative thinking is the ability expressed by the human being to analyze and evaluate the existing information regarding a specific topic, trying to clarify the truth of this information and reach a justified idea about it ignoring possible "lies" or flaws. We apply critical and creative thinking to try to discern the reality of what we are told and perceive from the analysis of the reasoning used to explain it.
We can read that man came to the Moon or that he never made it, observe the report of the results of a scientific experiment or we can see on television what we believe can be a multitudinous manifestation.
We can believe in it or not, taking into account that what comes to us from the media, what we read, what we are told, e.t.c, all may be the product of an error or due to biased interests or opinions.
We must not accept the information that comes to us as an absolute truth.
Some need to focus on developing critical thinking
    techniques. Cottrell (2005).

  3. Critical and creative thinking is the process in which we are capable of presenting reasons to support our arguments. It is necessary to make an introspection about what we think or believe about something. Beyond knowing our own reasons, we need to know why we do believe in that, and which are our supportive arguments. People need to develop their critical thinking in order to avoid extremes; being skeptical or gullible. To being critical involves a lot of aspects that need to be worked, so as making research to present evidence while you are giving your point of view. Critical thinking goes hand by hand with research, and this is a non-negotiable aspect of our learning process. Taking into account that being a critical person is not just criticize, but also enhance the positive aspects. Cottrell (2005).

  5. Critical and creative thinking is the ability that you have to analyze information, think clearly and make reasoned judgments. Critical thinkers rigorously question ideas; they identify, analyze and solve problems systematically rather than by intuition or instinct. Besides, we can say critical thinking is divided into the following skills: Curiosity is the desire to learn more information and seek evidence as well as being open to new ideas. Skepticism involves having a good attitude about new information that you are exposed to and not blindly believing everything everyone tells you. Humility is the ability to admit that your opinions and ideas are wrong when faced with new convincing evidence that states otherwise. Moreover, having an open mind to listen to different opinions of others and can to create a solid concept of what is discussing.
Finally, critical thinking process is so complex; it varies according to our current mindset. Most of the time we can learn to improve our critical thinking ability by developing certain routine activities and applying them to all the problems that present themselves.

    1. Dear Maira,

You’ve got a really good explanation of what critical thinking is. Also, I liked the ideas that you implemented here, Curiosity, Humility, and Skepticism, those ones are indirectly associate with the main topic. However, I consider you need to work on some syntactic mistakes, nothing to worry about.
Also, I agree with you in critical thinking is a complex process; because it may change according to every human being’s perspective, experiences, and even the knowledge they have acquired about any topic in life.

  6. Critical thinking is the ability in which we make use of mental process and organize our thoughts in a logical and reasoning way. It is about not believe whatever we hear, see, or read; we as critical thinkers have to be able to discern between what it is reasonable to be trusting and what is useful to be sceptical. Being critical involves certain skill and actittudes such as identify false and unfair assupmtions, understanding of the wider context, and present a point of view based on clear evidence and structured arguments; it is our duty to develop them in order to become true critical thinkers. Besides, we have to be able to examine our own beliefs and express our reasons to others. Lastly, critical thinking make us being aware that there is more than one way of looking at an issue, accept other people's point of view but analysing and evaluating their reasoning and arguments.

  7. Critical thinking is the capacity of analyzing other’s people reasons and points of view from a critical perspective, which, not necessarily needs to be negative. The criticism should be constructive, thus each side come up with a complete and understating reason. Critical thinking is also the capacity of paying attention to small details because these details can change the whole reasons of the person or yours. Furthermore, if you do not take notice of these details, your judgements might not be accurate nor fully reasonable. So, being a critical thinker it something that you need to work on. It is not something that you suddenly develop, but something that requires time, concentration, a good observation, and perseverance.

  10. CRITICAL THINKING is known as a cognitive process in which we can develop some skills in order to solve a problem or clarify some doubts about an specific topic. Critical thinking allows people to have alternative points of view, also it is a complex process because it requires that people analyze information, have proof about what people say. Moreover, it increases that people build their own arguments taking into account that they should give enough evidence, proofs and studies that support and make believable their outlook.
Critical thinking helps that we present a defined point of view , that we are able to drawing conclusions about information that we analyze from the context. Moreover it allows that the person is more rational, be aware and respectful about the beliefs that other people have because it is important highlight that making a critique about something is not a negative aspect, otherwise it enhances to give a new perspective concerning an isssue.

    1. I totally agree with your concept developed here. To get this ability of being a critical thinker, people should pass through rigorous practice as you mentioned;analyzing, having proof, and building self arguments. Then, this crucial procces would allow people to solve problems. In that order, people may avoid the wrong idea of being a good critical and creative thinker means to be always making criticism in a negative way.

    2. Hi, Yanire.
I consider you have done a good definition about critical thinking. I like when you say "it allows that the person is more rational, be aware and respectful about the beliefs that other people have" because it is true, and I would like to add something else, critical thinker people are more tolerant. However, it would be better if you have gone deeper about giving reasons why to be critical thinker people.

  11. Critical and creative thinking are part of a complex cognitive process in which we develop different skills. This cognitive process helps us to strengthen arguments to support our thoughts or ideas (evidence and examples are taken into account), and it also allows us to deeply analyze critical positions of someone, something, and even analyze the same society in which we live. Thinking critically and creatively is what makes us rational beings, and be different from other species in the world. The continuous questioning (go in search of an answer beyond the normal logic) of things or the world, and the integration of new knowledge (question, propose, accept and modify ideas) have allowed human beings to evolve every day more; additionally, it is thanks to the good development of critical and creative thinking that those things can happen in order to change the world.

  12. I believe critical thinking is the ability to analyze and study things clearly and rationally. To have critical thinking is to be curious, fair and objective. It is questioning ideas instead of assuming them as they come to us. It is a process which also involves being able to see things from the perspective of other people without judging or evaluating. Having critical thinking can help us to open our minds and expand our horizons. It also allows us to make correct decisions more easily, to improve our ability to solve problems and to decide how to act at a certain situation. Above all, I think critical thinking is a form of defense against manipulation and indoctrination.

    1. I highlight the part where you said: "it is a process in which you see other perspectives without judging". As the text given by the professor; many people confuse the term "to be critic", with being a bad person that tells negatives comments; but rather it means, you can give your comment, no matter if it is positive o negative; the main purpose of it, is to learn, to be sympathetic with other people's comment, and obviously without getting angry.

  13. critical thinking is a capacity people have in order to give reasons and arguements that can support positively ideas from other people. For the critical thinking process, is neccesary to take into account that your mind is the one which has the main role because the logical part of the ideas you express are important for the analysis you do about people´s ideas and perceptions.
Also, in critical thinking you can reflect about what you think of the things; it is a good tool because as you provide comments about other ideas, you also enhance what you can say about an specific topic. finally, the most important part of the crtical thinking process is to have enough tolerance to understand and accept diferent points of view from people so as to construct new arguments and positive aspects that can solve issues in the society.

  14. Critical and creative thinking is that cognitive capacity we develop to analyze people's arguments, beliefs, and points of view. However, being a critical and creative thinker means that you are able to analyze your own beliefs rationally. You are aware of why you do agree or disagree with different points of view. If someone asks you why do you think this or that, you are able to answer in a convincing way. Being critical thinkers help us to be more rational and more accurate in our daily decisions. One of the benefits of improving critical and creative thinking is becoming people more aware of their reality, but in my personal opinion, one of the most important benefics is developing knowledge.

  15. Critical thinking can be achieved by practice. Being critical means that we can analyze problems and understand those problems with different perspectives, understanding other’s people point of view allow us to see behind the surface. Creative thinkers are people that can control their emotions, keeping their prejudices and beliefs apart helps them to discern between important and lest important things. Being accurate with what with said, being able to support it with good arguments. To conclude, Creative thinking, develop skills that can helps us in our daily outcomes.

  16. critical and creative thinking is the capacity developed in the learning of it through the use of mental processes such as attention, categorisation, selection, and judment. when we are thinking in a critical and creative way we are developing some skills such as identification, interpretation, analysis of data, accury on relevant things.it is a complex prpocess wich involves the opinion, belief, point of view from people and each other. the pourpuse of it is to not believe on everything we see or heard in the real life world and encouroge us to doubt about that, in order to develope critical and creative thinkling, because when we doubt we make rational process to understand what we are not very sure.

  17. By having critical and creative thinking, a person has the ability to express him/herself clearly and in a structured way; also very important to analyze carefully the opinion of others. On the other hand, critical thinking takes us to look further and ask questions about the motivation and purpose of the information we receive. It is important to look for reliability and authority in the source of that information.
If we accept everything that is offered to us by different means without questioning, we will be susceptible to constant abuse and manipulation.

  18. critical and creative thinking is the capability to learn, generate and evaluate knowledge, clarify ideas and concepts, consider alternatives and seek possibilities to solve problems. This situation makes it neccesary to develop skills, behaviours such as reason, logic and imagination about the topic that is talking about.
To be a critical thinker it has to be impartial and not be influenced by different positions. Your personal thoughts can not get in the way of critical thinking because the process that leads to being a creative thinker can be affected. It must be rational to have a good management of the situation of the problem.

  19. For me critical thinking is having the capacity to understand that all people have different points of view and that they might differ from yours. The important thing about critical thinking is that we need strong arguments to support our point of view towards a topic. Critical thinking means to analyze the evidence in order to take a position, we need to see the problems from different perspectives so that we could understand each one of them and make a decision.

  20. Critical thinking is the ability to think rationally about what to do or what to believe, it is to investigate and to have a clear idea of what you want. A critical thinker is curious, he is able to deduce and to make use of information in order to solve problems. Critical thinking is analyze and evaluate existing information, it is questioning all around us, having strong arguments to defend what you believe and being informed so that way you can make a decision on your own and not because someone or the system said it.

  21. I think critical thinking is a cognitive activity which involves some attitudes and skills that enable people to be objective, fair, to questioning everything, to use skepticism, and go beyond what they already know. Trough critical thinking people develop the ability to analyze, think logical, reasonable, clear, and to make accurate judgments from people's arguments, beliefs, and reasons to believe in that way of thinking. Being critical involves having a thirst of knowledge, courage, and confidence to share, evaluate, and consider not only our beliefs, actions, and points of view but also to see things from the perspective of other people. The reason why everyone should start thinking critically is that it helps us to make correct decisions and to not be exposed to manipulation due to from now on we will put every single thing, detail into consideration.

  22. In my opinion, having a critical and creative thinking develops a capacity to learn, recognize and respect new ideas, thoughts or arguments about any context. It does not mean that we have to accept just because, but to be able to have different perspectives about a problem or situation. This ability could allow the human being to generate or contribute knowledge from their point of view or from their own experience about the situation or the problem for which it is being discussed.

  24. In my opinion, you know you have a critical thinking when you over think the situation or the argument you are facing at the, having a creative thinking involves takin and understanding that there might be more than one solution or point of views, so, creative thinking does help you find a solution because it is based on moving out of the typical mental framework we are living in.

  25. Critical thinking is the ability that everyone has for hesitating about something. that "something" could be a text, an article, a thought (you own thought or anyone else's). that ability might more developed by some people than for others. and those who have it more developed, it is thanks for the practice, since practice make perfect. Critical thinking is to have your own point of view about a topic, but at the same time, to have the capacity of doubt about what you know, and maybe changes it. that point of view can be changed if well-founded arguments are exposed to contradict my thoughts; if I do not use my emotion, but rather my reason. Critical thinking is to do a reflection about your knowledge, other people knowledge, and always inquiring about everything you see, hear, o even speak.

  27. Critical thinking could be defined as one of the last states of the complexity of thought, because it requires the logical and arguable questioning of all possible truths that can be built around a theory, a diagnosis or a tesis.
critical thinking is a thought that goes beyond what a person could think, that is to say, that it sets itself as an objective process that takes into account all the different points of view.
It can be said that being a critical thinker, is not going against everyone or taking a negative attitude against people who have a different truth, a critical thinker exposes his truth, argues, and counterarguments, talks about what could be the cons and the pro of his theory and his truth.
The critical thinker must be a humble person, quiet, and above all that contributes to critical thinking in turn, to achieve a true process that encourages the learning of a true critic of reason.

  29. Personally I think that critical thinking is about creating different thoughts about what we read, see, listen or what has been taught to us. More specifically, I believe that if we think critically we will be able to doubt about everything. It is pretty important to stop believe what other have taught to us and start thinking about other perspectives in all senses. Thinking critically also means that we have the strength to create very strong arguments when saying something. It might be quite different from what other people are used to say but it might be interesting to at least hear for real what other people think about any topic with no judgement. And according to Mrs Stella’s book “What is critical thinking?” I think that is pretty complete the idea of what critical thinking means. She believes that this topic is about scepticism but in constructive ways which can be analyzed before us. She mentions the capacity to be reasonable thinkers to solve any problem that we would have to face and this is related to what we believe and things we do and I completely agree with her statement because if we want to think critically we should start doubting about all the beliefs that have been taught to us.

  30. Critical and creative thinking allows students to analyze exahustiva skills, behaviors, concepts and opinions that help develop reason, logic, ingenuity and imagination in different fields of learning. The ability of thought to think and rethink, helps the individual to promote in their acquisition of information, an increasingly wider understanding, for that reason the increase of this ability makes them more secure and autonomous, problem solvers and thinkers.
This ability combines two types of thinking: critical thinking and creative thinking. Although the two are not interchangeable, they are strongly linked, providing complementary dimensions to thinking and learning.

  31. For me, critical and creative thinking is the ability to express your feelings, thinkings, beliefs about a topic, and use arguments to defend them. For example, in a debate, you tend to choose a side according to what you think or you believe about that. Nevertheless, to defend your point of view, you have to use that ability to create or find strong arguments in order to sustain what you think.

To reflect sceptically and to think in a reason way; as Cottrell mentioned Ennis (1998). It also allows you to clarify better your ideas in order to came up with confident decisions.

  34. Critical and creative thinking encompasses a wide range of abilities that go from being tolerant of other people's ideas to having the fundamental knowledge regarding the topic we want to discuss. These cognitive skills enable us to take heed of a plethora of different variables that roam the spectrum of phenomena that constitute the universe. In doing so, we are then expected to reflect upon the intricate dynamics of existence and cause-effect, and provide evidence-based arguments as to why we believe in something in particular. In that sense, critical and creative thinking is not only an individual, cognitive process, but it's also a means by which we all create an understanding of our reality through a systematic, self-assessed and analytic process that we all take part in. Furthermore, these skills enable us to not take things for granted and, based on the tenet of falsifiability, we are bound to an inconclusive reality in which there is no room for certainty, only estimations, and from that point of view, we are then expected to remain humble and skeptic in regards to what we wish to seek and what we believe in.

  35. WHAT’S CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING?
For me, It’s a cognitive activity, associated with using of the mind. It consists in thinking critically, analytically and evaluative, using mental processes such as attention, categorization, selection, and judgment. Everyone can develop these skills but Personal, emotional and effective reason can hinder these abilities.

Also, critical thinking is seen as a complex process of deliberation skills and attitudes which involves skills and attitudes as; Identification others people’s positions, arguments, and conclusions. The evaluation of arguments, pieces of evidence and points of view. In order to identify assumptions, and techniques to reflect about issues and insights to convince others based on justifiable arguments and evidence.

Dispositions and abilities that critical and creative thinking is based on:

o The ability to reflect sceptically.

o The ability to think in a reasoned way.

All these are tools are that a critical and creative mind gets to scepticism and doubt constructively so that you can analyze it, taking better assumptions in which what is productive and reliable.

  37. Critical and Creative Thinking is the development of a group of some skills such as, paying attention to details, selecting relevant information or evidence, and being jugdmental in positive and negative ways. They all need to be complemented each other. These two ways of thinking allow people to think clearly before they take a decision in their everyday life. For example, to avoid giving poor opinions, thougts or arguments about anything. Besides, people may learn how to solve problems. These skills should be practiced in order to develop them in the right way. Which means people should be carefull and do not get confused with concepts of critical with criticism. Also they should control their feelings and emotions when they are supporting their ideas. These two last situations mentioned here are also known as barriers in becoming a good creative and critical thinker. To sum up, I would say that Critical and Creative thinking is the position or reflection we take of everything we see and hear.

  38. To be creative it is to think "out of the box", it is create new things, and to see things with a different perspective, and to be critical, it is to be objective, to see things being openminded, and also think about different opinions to see what is more accurate, or how you can create a new definition. I think that one of the most important things in this topic, it is that to be critical and creative, you need to know your own mind, to know your opinions and thoughts about everything, in order to that, you will be able to know why you think in that way, and change it if it is necessary, KNOWING WHY you are changing it.

  39. For Critical and Creative Thinking, the first thing that comes to my mind is that you have to read a lot in order to develop skills that enables you to have well-grounded opinions, a strong understanding for the sight of implicit details and, finally, that you have to be perceptive as well as comprehensive towards alternative point of views. However, after reading "What is critical thinking?" by Stella Cottrel, I came to know that it encompasses many more aspects, such as the emotional ones. Critical thinking is not only about reading (although this is one of the paramount aspects for the improvement of these cognitive skills), but about listening to others people's judgements on a specific topic, about collecting data from external sources in pursuance of supporting your personal assumptions, and about evaluating, analysing and thinking over again on what you already knew along with what you can get to know.

  40. In my personal opinion, critical thinking is the process to accepting that people have different point of view. Being a critical thinker is to identify and respect other people’s arguments.
We used to confuse being critical with criticize. On the one hand, being critical is to make an argument refers to an specific topic; but it has to be clear and well state in order to persuade others to believe that my opinion is correct and reliable. On the other hand, criticize is to express disapproval to an argument or looking for the bad side of it.
I consider that to become a critical thinker, we have to read a lot in order to have a big amount of knowledge. This knowledge help us to understand better an issue, so we can discuss, give our own opinion and maybe judge certain arguments. I do not know if I am wrong with my opinion but, the more open-minded more critical you should be.

To have a critical and creative thinking is important to develop ancillary skills such us: observation, reasoning, decision-making, analysis, judgement, and persuasion. Therefore, being a critical and creative thinker implicates to identify other people's arguments, position, and points of view. It's necessary to evaluate the information or evidence to look for alternative points of view. It implicates to make a reflection so that conclusions can emerge. And finally, there will be a presentation of our point of view by persuading others. The idea is that the final argument or point of view can be structured, clear, and well-reasoned

  42. As human beings, we need to develop some critical thinking techniques in order to implement them in further life. Also, those relevant characteristics we are supposed to develop may lead our inner thoughts into the more perceptive analysis in any aspect of life.
By implementing these critical thinking skills in daily life, we will observe that many aspects in our routine regarding work, friendship, analyzing news, or even love may change in terms of critically examine every event, which helps us to improve the reasoning, thinking, and making decisions from a more judging outlook.
In our Colombian educational context, Do we really think in a critical way? I would, some people do; this happens because since we were little children, we have not been taught to think critically. In addition, in schools, very few amounts of teachers are engaged with teaching students how to reason deductively and inductively. This needs to be changed due to children will become adults, and people need to deliberate in a very well thought out way, in this way, they would be able to contribute to our country and sociocultural development. Also, I consider if people develop those critical thinking skills, they may become global citizens, having the opportunities to share experiences with other people, talk about plenty of events occurring all over the world.
Finally, it is very important for our logical and critical position to develop certain critical thinking techniques, due to this gathers every single sense of understanding in regard to trying to change someone else's mind, or even to have any repercussions in their lives.
